Club Ride
The benefits of joining a bicycling club are numerous, not the least of which is making new friends who share like interests. Many cyclists being health conscious are also active in other sports including triathlon’s which involves biking, running and swimming. Some enjoy paddle boarding, stair climbing, yoga and Pilates to name a few activities.
Knowledge. As a member of a cycling club you gain knowledge about bike basics; bike safety, “Rules of the Road”, how to change a tire, how to train for long distance bike rides, e.g., Century ride- 100 miles, etc., good things to eat and drink while riding your bike to provide the energy you’ll need to achieve your fitness goals.
Discounts. Bike clubs typically partner with local bike shops in order for club members to enjoy discounts on bike purchases, mechanical support and cycling merchandise. Organized clubs offer liability insurance to their members which is an add on to your own insurance which can be used if you are involved in a cycling accident while cycling with your club.
Socials. Club membership often includes club social events; educational workshops, special group rides and holiday parties. Some clubs offer exclusive access to Facebook private group pages where members read about cycling news, upcoming local events, and share information about additional rides or special offers to members only.
Club Kit. What would a cycling club be without wearing that all important club “kit”, which is the matching outfit worn while cycling with your club. Basic club kits typically include; cycling shorts, jersey and socks. Additional custom items may include a cycling hat worn under the helmet, arm and leg warmers, sun shields for legs and arms and booties to cover your cycling shoes.
Friendships. Last but not least are the friendships and lasting memories of rides you have shared with your cycling friends. Becoming a member of a bicycling club is a great idea for beginners and advanced riders alike. Annual membership is often as low as $25 per year. Whoa, that’s about equal to the cost of five cups of Starbucks coffee! Check online or ask your local bike shop for referrals to a bicycling club near you!
