Dr. Ben Benham, is a world-renowned Dermatologist in Los Angeles. A leading board-certified dermatologist in the US, recognized nationally by Newsweek as one of the top 10 Physicians and Surgeons in the US, with appearances on The Doctors Show, FOX Good Day LA, and ABC News.
Dr. Benham has more than twenty years of experience studying the best way to treat his patients skin. He protects the privacy of his patients, which is one of the reasons why he is the preferred dermatologist to Hollywood stars, and too the many families who put their trust in him and call him their doctor.
Dr. Benham talks with Women Bicycling about skin care for young female adults; “Eighty percent (80%) of skin damage occurs by age eighteen (18). So most younger adults, females particularly, come in for skin checks. They come in routinely once a year to basically have all their moles checked and make sure they don’t have any form of skin-cancers or pre-cancers. So they come and we basically take a look literally from the bottom of the toes, all the way up to the scalp checking everything. Very commonly we actually do find skin cancers in patients in their late 20’s, early 30’s at the scalp, part line, or one of the most common area’s of melanomas in young female adults is behind the leg. So we definitely want to make sure you know there are no abnormal moles or dark moles there. But we thoroughly check everywhere, and if there is anything suspicious we remove it, biopsy and test it. We recommend doing this on an annual basis. We also recommend no tanning and a lot of sunscreen. ”
Dermatologist’s often point out that a common mistake most people make is failing to reapply sunscreen, especially if swimming, are out in the sun for an extended period of time or when perspiring a lot. Read sunscreen labels to know how often you must reapply.
